Ew! The Shabby Sheep by Scott Lemonier is the touching story of a sad and lonely sheep, nicknamed Ew, and his search for friends. Ew loves playing in the mud and doing other weird things. This makes him smelly and bizarre so no other animal wants to be around him. He has tried his very best to make some friends, but always fails. Every time he tries to play with others or share anything with them, they reject him. He has tried all the animals, but in vain. He has tried fellow sheep, horses, and chickens among others, but with no success. None of them wants to be friends with a smelly, weird sheep. Will Ew ever make some friends or does he have to change his ways before others accept him? Follow Ew's story as he searches for friends and see all the different animals he meets along the way.
Ew! The Shabby Sheep by Scott Lemonier is a very moving story with many lessons for children. The story is written in a style perfectly suited for the intended reader age group, with vivid illustrations that will appeal to young minds. Seeing how sad Ew becomes when he is rejected by other animals will teach kids to be kind to and accepting of others, irrespective of our different ways of life, and that we should not welcome or reject others simply based on their life style. More importantly, we should never have to change our looks or our ways just because we want to be liked by others; a true friend will accept you as you are. Ew! The Shabby Sheep is a fun way to teach kids about diversity in society and acceptance. Scott Lemonier did a wonderful job writing and illustrating this story and it will be a valuable and enjoyable read for kids.
