"Eye of the Sword" is the second book in the 'Angelaeon Circle' series featuring human characters and winged heavenly beings who lend a hand when needed. Twenty-one year old Trevin is due to be named a comain in the kingdom of King Laetham of Camrithia. All the King's other comains, captains in the Camrithian army, have disapeared or might be dead. Trevin has deep feelings for King Laetham's daughter, Melaia, but she is to be promised to Prince Varic from the Dregmoors. Varic promises jewels but Trevin is convinced that he and the Dregmoorians really want to overrun Camrithia. On the order of King Laetham, Trevin journeys to find the missing comains. At the same time, he also seeks three special harps that Melaia wants returned. Trevin's quest is not an easy one. He walks on the air with mysterious Windweaver who reminds him that a man desires to show his true nature. Then Trevin is blamed incorrectly for the death of young Prince Resarian, the only child of the King and Queen of Eldarra. He is also mindful of his younger, not so trustworthy brother, Dwin. Thrown into jail, tortured by guilt for a former deed, will Trevin succeed? Will he seek and find inner truth and eventually win Melaia's hand?
"Eye of the Sword" is a brilliantly written fantasy novel that will have broad appeal, especially to teens, as there is no unacceptable violence or sex in its pages. The many characters - Trevin, Melaia, Pym who is Trevin's aid, young Prince Resarian, Catellus who grieves the loss of his son Marcus, Queen Ambria and King Kedemeth of EEldarra - are believable and well-delineated. The plot of Trevin's quest and his eventual understanding of himself flows smoothly to the story's end. Followers of fantasy novels will want to put "Eye of the Sword" at the top of their reading list. It is not to be missed.
