A.M. Woodbury brings us an epic fantasy in A Shroud Undone. Vaelorian has been trapped in an endless war for more than a thousand years. In the south of the continent, in a little village called Wyrnhollow, Theron lives with guilt he refuses to share, making amends by helping those who need it more. When news arrives that the Sylphar in the north have taken the keep at Redan Pass, Theron knows it’s time to make things right. Joining the recruiters, Theron heads toward the Mountain Temple with his comrades. His new friends soon learn that Theron is more than he appears, and it doesn’t scare them. Meanwhile, Nyra Draeven, Strategist for the Sylphar, will do whatever is in her power to prevent the Stillight from falling into the hands of the humans.
Author A.M. Woodbury has delivered a superb first book in the Fractured Balance series, setting a high bar with brilliant writing. Characters are well developed and likable, with small habits that make them easily relatable. Supporting characters are skillfully portrayed, with hints of comic relief, making one such a favorite. This book is immersive, with a plethora of sensory stimulation on every page. The pacing is driven forward by dialogue that feels natural, and the fight scenes are executed with perfection. Every scene has its own balance, aiding the execution of the plot with unbound precision. A Shroud Undone is perfect for anyone who enjoys epic battles and friendships built on trust. I eagerly await the next book in this series.
