Final Chance by E.B. Roshan is one of those stories readers will ponder about long after finishing. It is set in what sounds like a Middle Eastern region, with civil war raging between two territories. When Preen’s boyfriend Rama, the father of her two-year-old daughter, calls after a two-year absence with a cryptic message to come get him out of the war-torn neighboring city of Tur, Preen quickly jumps into action. When she tries to contact him again, he doesn’t answer, and she agonizes over his radio silence and is unsure of what to do. With the White Horse Militia presence strong, and terrorists killing people and bombing the area, she needs to act discreetly or get caught. Along the way, she meets up with Sanjit, a man bent on killing Rama for his own reasons. What happens next is non-stop action.
There are many facets to explore in Final Chance by E.B. Roshan and readers will be eagerly turning the pages. There’s the civil war to maneuver around, the effects of it on those who must survive its terrifying effects, and then buried within is a love story. The love story has several layers and as the reader gets deeper into the story, these layers slowly get peeled back. We meet Preen, who is waiting for her boyfriend to come back. The family presumes he is dead since they haven’t heard from him in several years. There’s Kiva, Preen’s cousin, who loves Preen and wants to marry her. There’s the love between mother and daughter but Preen chooses the love she has for Rama to leave her two-year-old daughter to go find him. And then there’s that fateful moment when Preen is faced with a difficult decision… to survive or save herself… and kill the one she loves. Readers will enjoy the love story as well as the suspense.
