First Contact Last Resort by Singularitive Ranch is set in 2033 and tells the story of a Computational Astrophysics Professor, Amelita Bloom, aka Lita, and the consequences an accidental discovery has had on her and her colleagues. The discovery could have a profound impact on the destinies of humanity, but before having definitive results, the news leaks to the press in a distorted way. From that moment on, things get more difficult for Lita and the others, to the point that they need the protection of the FBI. What will happen to them? And what will they find in the end?
Reading First Contact Last Resort was nothing short of enthralling. Singularitive Ranch writes very concisely and does not dwell on long descriptions. It is mainly because of this writing style that we can easily follow the suspenseful events. I liked that we not only get the scientific details, as one might expect from a story like this, but it also highlights the reactions of individuals such as Dr. Robert Bob and his The End of Earth Society. This allows us to reflect on our responses. Since this is only the first volume of a series, the ending intrigued me; I cannot wait to read the next installment. I recommend it to all sci-fi lovers, and I hope the sequel will be as engaging as the first volume.
