Words of Wisdom for Teens: Five Simple Questions to Reclaim Your Happiness (and have an amazing parent/daughter relationship) asks these five simple questions: 1. What Am I Feeling? 2. Why Do I Feel This Way? 3. Is This Emotion Useful For Any Reason? 4. How Can I See This Differently? and 5. Would I Rather Be Right Or Happy? The author, Jacqui Letran, is a Nurse Practitioner & Adolescent Self-Empowerment Specialist who wrote this book for parents who are feeling disrespected by their teenage daughters and frustrated that nothing they say to their child seems to work. In demonstrating how situations can be handled, she uses examples from real-life situations of her clients. I like the quote she uses early in the book, cited to a Dr. Henker: "Stop trying to perfect your child, but keep trying to perfect your relationship with her." And that, in a nutshell, is what this book is about.

The questions listed above were great because they made you step back and consider where your emotions were coming from in dealing with the situation. Words of Wisdom for Teens: Five Simple Questions to Reclaim Your Happiness by Jacqui Letran assists readers by taking them through the things they can control rather than stressing over the things that they cannot control. Question #5 is key - would you rather be right or happy? As the old saying goes, sometimes we have to pick our battles.
