For some people, no matter what their intentions, life seems to bring challenge after challenge. "Flora's Wish" by Kathleen Y'Barbo is the story of "fatal Flora", a beautiful and feisty redhead who has, through no discernible fault of her own, lost four former fiancés to death. Flora must marry and produce an heir by the age of thirty or lose her inheritance, and time is running short. Her current fiancée, Will Tucker, is being investigated for criminal mischief by Pinkerton agent, Lucas McMinn, a handsome, charming adversary with whom Flora plays a mental chess game throughout the book. Is Will Tucker who he says he is? Will Flora save her beloved Brimmfield? Will Flora finally speak those precious vows for convenience or for genuine love? Y'Barbo adroitly keeps you guessing in this lovely tale of romance and intrigue.

Flora is a charming protagonist. She is beautiful and bright and good. She is a strong southern belle with a backbone of steel and a contrary streak a mile wide. She doesn't want anyone controlling her life, often including God. "it was a particular fault of hers, this ordering the Lord around as if she and not He knew what was best." She is painfully honest and you will fall in love with Flora as you learn that she is always thinking of others, working to ensure their life is enhanced, and willing to risk being ostracized to achieve what she believes is best for those she loves. "Flora's Wish" is a highly entertaining and well-written story that subtly addresses the dilemma many of us face on a daily basis, that is, 'who IS in charge--God or me?'
