For the Love of St. Nick is written from the point of view of an eight-year-old boy. Tiger’s mother died giving birth to his brother, Johnny. The boys must cope not only with the loss of their mother, but also with their father’s transfer from sunny California to northern Michigan and with Johnny’s fragile health. On one special evening, the boys received a special visit and experienced a miracle.
For the Love of St. Nick is an endearing Christmas story. Woven throughout the story is threads of Catholicism. The relationship between the father and his two sons is heartwarming. For the Love of St. Nick is a short book with only 44 pages. This book is written for children between the ages of 8 and 12. The book would benefit from pictures. The cover is beautifully done and hints at the wonder found in the pages. However, children like pictures. With further development, this story could relate to an older audience. The characters would need more development and the plot expanded. If the author adds pictures to complement the text, I am sure this can become a Christmas favorite.
