Frantic by Brent Bradley is a psychological technothriller of astoundingly high quality for a debut novel. The story takes us to Texas and unfolds over 72 hours of a deadly race against time and the world’s most powerful and wealthy techno-titans. Formerly friends, two genius AI developers fell out over the moral aspects of AI development. Now, Texas faces an upcoming vote for a controversial AI bill backed by those in high places in the USA and beyond. A marriage therapist, a private detective, and an ex-AI developer find themselves on the opposite end of the AI bill’s scale as they join forces to prevent its passing by the Senate. But why are they trying to sabotage the AI bill? And will they succeed?
I enjoyed every moment of reading Brent Bradley’s Frantic. It has everything I would expect in a top-quality technothriller – a fast-moving plot, jaw-dropping twists, and a thought-provoking underlying theme to keep me turning the pages and reflecting on the rights and wrongs. Reminiscent of Dan Brown’s Digital Fortress, this novel is a step up to the modern state of technology and even more suspenseful. What an awesome film it would make! As an AI fan, I liked how the author portrayed the current state, flaws, and risks of AI. As a lawyer, I enjoyed the dilemmas that the AI bill presented. But most of all, I was impressed by the breathtaking, high-tech climax. I highly recommend this awesome novel to techno-thriller fans. Lawyers, politicians, and AI enthusiasts will enjoy this novel too.
