Frederick Moody and the Secrets of Six Summit Lake by Jeannie Rivera is a thrilling read for children from ten years up and those adults who love adventures and a good detective story. Frederick Moody, or Fred, is a sixth grader living in the village of Six Summit Lake, where people claim to see Bigfoot quite often. Fred is so fascinated by the creature that even his best friend, Cindy, stops talking to him. He is going to prove that Bigfoot really exists for Cindy to take him seriously. After a hiker and then a married couple go missing, Fred tries his best to track Bigfoot down in the nearby forests, risking incurring the wrath of his granddad, the local sheriff. And, of course, he can't stand by when his schoolmate, Luke Meriwether, gets lost after bragging about climbing the dangerous Drop to spot Bigfoot.

Frederick Moody and the Secrets of Six Summit Lake is an engaging coming-of-age story. I like that Jeannie Rivera speaks about the trials and tribulations of growing up and keeping childhood friends near with great warmth and understanding. Fred is a wonderful character, puzzling readers with his out-of-the-box conduct and solutions. The story revolves around a mystery, and Fred is the mystery himself, which I find absolutely amazing. Fred is motivated, and he holds dear his friendship with Cindy, another great, full-of-surprises character. Jeannie shows her young readers the values of friendship and mutual support even in dire situations. The captivating plotline of the narrative started like a children's book but soon became a solid detective story with a twist I couldn't figure out. Jeannie's writing style is another delightful aspect of Frederick Moody and the Secrets of Six Summit Lake. I hope that the breathtaking adventures of Fred Moody continue very soon.
