Author Biography

I'm Connie Paglianiti — a former high-flying event manager who once worked with Hollywood icons, elite brands, and global audiences. From the outside, my life looked glamorous. But behind the scenes, I was unraveling. After being betrayed by people I trusted — including a conman who left me over a million dollars in debt — I spiralled into gambling addiction, made one devastating mistake, and ended up behind bars.

I wrote From the Shadows Into the Light not to glorify my past, but to own it — and to shine a light on what happens when shame, silence, and stigma take over. This book is my truth: raw, unfiltered, and deeply human. It’s about falling hard, but rising with grit.

What inspired me? The countless people — especially women — who feel like one mistake defines them forever. I want to show that redemption is real, second chances matter, and even from the darkest places, you can rebuild.

Now, I speak on stages, teach event management with lived experience, and lead the Breaking Chains movement — to challenge judgment and fight for real rehabilitation.

If you’ve ever been judged, silenced, or told you don’t deserve another shot — this book is for you.

From the Shadows into the Light by Connie M Paglianiti is a raw and courageous memoir chronicling a dramatic fall from grace and a hard-won journey back to self-worth and hope. Once a celebrated event manager, trusted by high-profile clients and industry leaders, Connie's life took a devastating turn after betrayal, addiction, and incarceration. But instead of letting shame define her, she lays bare the painful and often redemptive truths of stigma, resilience, and the justice system. From her childhood in a strict Italian household to her rise in the events industry, her descent into gambling addiction, and her eventual imprisonment, Connie’s unflinching honesty and inner strength illuminate a path from self-destruction to personal redemption. Her story is both a warning and a beacon, reaching anyone who has faced public judgment and wondered if healing is truly possible.

Author Connie M Paglianiti writes from the heart, and that raw quality is evident on every page of this unflinching and powerful personal testimony that confronts addiction and incarceration with rare honesty. This is a work that leaves itself open to potential judgment and criticism, yet because there’s something so open and vulnerable about the author, you want to see Connie succeed and come safely out on the other side of all the self-destructive problems she has. The storytelling style is sharp and emotional, leaving no issue unexplored and taking readers through the pages of her life with a novel-like, cinematic sense of detail, infused with grit, humour, and heart from cover to cover. For anyone who has ever been in similar circumstances, it makes for a deeply moving look at shame, justice, and second chances from a woman who refused to give up, and there’s a sense of honor and wisdom that I certainly felt Paglianiti had earned by the end of the story that was so uplifting. Overall, I would certainly recommend From the Shadows into the Light for memoir fans everywhere as an empowering reminder that even in the darkest times, redemption is within reach.

Connie Paglianiti’s *From the Shadows into the Light* is a courageous and unapologetically raw memoir that grips you from the first page and refuses to let go. It’s not just a story of addiction or incarceration—it’s a powerful chronicle of resilience, redemption, and the relentless pursuit of self-worth in a society quick to judge but slow to forgive.

Connie writes with a voice that is both vulnerable and unflinchingly honest. There’s no glossing over the darkest moments—her descent into gambling addiction, the devastating consequences, and the cold reality of prison life. But what makes this biography truly inspiring is the light that follows. Her journey doesn’t end in confinement; it begins anew with a quiet, determined rebellion against shame and stigma.

The authenticity of her narrative is what sets this book apart. You feel her shame, her struggle, her doubt—but also her strength. Connie doesn’t ask for pity. Instead, she offers a roadmap for reclaiming dignity in a world that often sees only a person’s past mistakes.

What’s most moving is her battle beyond prison—the uphill climb of rebuilding a life while carrying the label of "ex-offender." It’s a stark reminder that freedom isn’t always granted at the prison gates. Yet, Connie's story shines as proof that healing and growth are possible, even after society has written you off.

*From the Shadows into the Light* is more than a memoir; it's a call to compassion. For those who’ve struggled with addiction, faced incarceration, or felt invisible in the face of public judgment, Connie Paglianiti offers a beacon of hope. It's not a sugar-coated transformation tale. It’s the real deal—raw, real, and deeply human.

**Highly recommended** for anyone looking to better understand the human side of recovery and the courage it takes to step back into the light.

Raw, inspiring and brutally honest. This is a book you need to read if you need help finding a way through any struggles in life.
From the cultural background to the career to the downfall to the rise again (but in a different way). This book made me really listen and remind myself of my own struggles and how I too have come out the other side happier. A compelling read with love, sadness, distress and hope; but the constant need to change their life. Being in business is not for the faint hearted.
Lots to learn and savour and it’s a book/story that should really resonate with a lot of people no matter your background or hardships.
A nice touch to add in references for readers to gain additional support.
Kudos to the author for being brave and finding out what really matters in life.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was surprised by how much I connected with Connie’s journey. Her fall was steep and very public, but her climb back was even more impressive. She writes with courage and humility, and while it’s painful to read at times, it’s also deeply encouraging. I would’ve loved a bit more detail on her life post-incarceration, but overall, this is a story that sticks with you.

Mildred Caldwell

This is the kind of real-life drama that you’d expect to see on screen—glamour, scandal, prison, and a powerful comeback. What makes it special is that it’s not dramatized—just authentic and vulnerable. Connie has a way of writing that makes you feel like she’s sitting across from you telling her story. It’s a perfect read for anyone who believes in grace after failure.

Her courage to expose the darkest parts of her life and still rise is nothing short of breathtaking. This book will change how you view failure, addiction, and the power of resilience.

This is one of the most honest and empowering books I’ve read in years. Connie’s fall was hard, public, and painful—but her comeback is the real headline. I couldn’t stop highlighting passages. Every page holds hard-won wisdom and genuine hope. Buy it, read it, and then pass it on.

Stanley Holloway

From Hollywood glam to prison walls, Connie takes you on a rollercoaster of truth. Her writing is as fearless as her mission. This book doesn’t just tell a story—it activates something inside you. A must-read for anyone searching for meaning, purpose, or a second chance.

Whether you’ve struggled yourself or know someone who has, this book opens your eyes to the reality behind addiction—and the incredible strength it takes to reclaim your life. Connie’s story proves that hitting bottom isn't the end. It’s the start of something powerful.

Connie’s memoir is more than just inspiring—it’s a lifeline. Her transparency is refreshing, her resilience is contagious, and her advocacy work is deeply needed. If you think your past disqualifies you from a better future, this book will make you think again

Dorothy Terry

I appreciated how transparent and courageous Connie was in telling her story. The first half really immerses you in her glamorous world, which makes her fall from grace even more impactful. There were a few parts where the pacing slowed a bit, but her journey is powerful. You feel her pain, her regret, and most importantly, her strength. It’s a great reminder that no matter how far we fall, there's a way back.

Ervin Todd

This book blew me away. Connie Paglianiti doesn’t hold back—she lays everything bare, from the glittering heights of her event-planning career to the crushing lows of her addiction and incarceration. What stands out is her unflinching honesty and the hope woven throughout her story. It’s more than a memoir—it’s a lifeline for anyone who feels like they’ve lost their way. Highly recommend for readers who crave real, unvarnished stories of second chances.
