Front of House (Observations from a Decade on the Aisle) by Denise Reich is a memoir on Denise Reich’s life as an usher for Broadway shows. This is a book that would appeal most to a mixed audience of young adults and adults who have an interest in Broadway shows and want to see another side to them. Denise Reich spent fourteen years of her life working on more than fifty Broadway shows, ranging from Cats, Les Miserables, all the way to The Phantom of the Opera. During this time she was not an actress or a director, but instead was an usher. This position gave her an entirely different perspective of Broadway that was between audience member and performer. During her career as an usher, she was a part of all sorts of Broadway drama. Are you ready to take a different look at Broadway?

Front of House (Observations from a Decade on the Aisle) by Denise Reich is a unique book in that it is a memoir of a Broadway usher; this is a topic that I never would have considered enjoyable or interesting until I cracked open the book and began to read it. I found myself on an emotional rollercoaster right alongside Denise that made me laugh and cry; I had no idea of the sorts of things actors and fans could do or the craziness of it all. My heart went out to Denise when she was working to save the lives of some baby mice. As a person who has kept pet mice in the past, I found her actions rather touching as I don’t think most people would have tried to save them. Overall, I really enjoyed her writing style as it kept my attention captivated with all of the different stories she had to tell.
