Fulfillment by Vicki-Ann Bush is a short story which details the lives of Luke, a seventeen-year-old football player, and Mary, a beautiful spectator who he feels an instant connection with before they even meet. Luke’s sister, Becca, is a cheerleader at the game and his parents are in the stands, cheering them both on. When the game has ended, Luke approaches his father, Gabriel, asking who she is because he had never seen her before. When Gabriel sees who his son is talking about, his reaction is almost visceral and he demands that his son stay away from both Mary and her father.
Unable to keep his distance, Luke approaches Mary and asks if she would like to join him and his friends for an after-game party at the park, to which she agrees. At the park, Mary and Luke kiss for the first time but his body has an adverse reaction, similar to an electric shock. Luke’s sister and his friends are attacked by a large man who threatens to kill Becca in order to send the message of his arrival to Gabriel. Mary stops the attack with an unseen power, resulting in the attacker bowing down to revere her before leaving.
What an incredible read! I wound up being unable to put the book down, with such amazing developments taking place on every single page. Vicki-Ann Bush’s writing style had my adrenaline pumping, while sweeping me into the defiant love story of Luke and Mary, which was perfectly encapsulated. I hope that a second book will be written, quenching the reader’s thirst for what happens next.
