Ghostly Murders: A Samantha Davidson Novella, Book 2 is a paranormal mystery novella written by Laura Del. Samantha Davidson is used to the presence of the dead in her everyday life. She's been visited by spirits since she was 10 years old. This time, however, things are a bit different. Not only does she see the ghosts of the victims of the serial killer they're hunting, but she also sees inside his head -- and it's a scary place to be. She witnessed his attack on his newest victim, Rebecca, while she was dreaming, but she hadn't expected the real life crime scene to be quite as brutal and horrendous as it actually was. To make matters worse, Rebecca's ghost told Samantha that her murderer made sure that she was alive while he butchered her. When the serial killer's other victims seek out Samantha for help, each of them confirms being awake during the brutal slaying, and all but one fit Rebecca’s basic profile. Samantha's a Private Investigator, but she's been retained by the Chicago police department and is partnered with Detective Lance MacDowell. The two of them have their work cut out apprehending this serial killer, especially now that he's got Samantha in his sights as his next victim. This time, it's personal.

Laura Del's Ghostly Murders is a fast-paced and thrilling tale that blends detecting with paranormal fiction. While this is the second book in Del's Samantha Davidson Novella series, the author gives enough background information for this novella to be read on its own. That said, I highly recommend beginning with the first book in the series, Ghosts Among Men, which explores more fully the relationships between Samantha, her partner, Lance, and her office manager, Mark. This twenty-five-year-old private eye is your perfect noir detective. She's tough and gritty, and she doesn't cook, which turns out to be a very good thing in this story. I enjoyed following the twists and turns of this serial killer murder mystery which is well-written and superbly plotted. Ghostly Murders: A Samantha Davidson Novella, Book 2 is most highly recommended.
