Gilroy's Good Heart is an inspirational children’s picture book written by Victor Trussell with illustrations by Junis Laureano. The story follows Gilroy, a little boy who loves helping others and showing kindness to everyone. He always solves his friends' and his family's problems, which increases his confidence because he knows they can rely on him. One day, Gilroy creates a mess he can't fix, and this destroys the belief he has in himself. He does not bathe, his self-esteem drops, and he isn't there for his friends who truly need him. He feels like a failure, but after a few days of feeling dreadful, he talks to his grandmother, who gives him encouraging words that motivate him to get back on his feet and believe in himself again.

Gilroy's Good Heart is an incredible story with a profound message for kids and adults. Gilroy’s predicament is a familiar situation that many people find themselves in. We become skilled at fixing other people's problems and fail to solve our own. Sometimes, we need to allow others to help us, and just because you have failed once, it does not mean you are worthless. The book focuses on themes of confidence, responsibility, and kindness, which are traits that we should all strive to emulate. Victor Trussell does an outstanding job of presenting these lessons in a way that children will understand and relate to. He has highlighted keywords related to Gilroy’s emotions that are worth discussing when reading the book with your children. The book also has colorful illustrations that perfectly correspond with the story and make the book visually appealing. I highly recommend this book because it has a wonderful story and message.
