Godly Finance: Wisdom of the Ancients by Lance Dickson is a thoughtful exploration of the intersection between biblical wisdom and modern financial principles. This book looks at money from both a faith-based and practical perspective, showing how they can work together. It highlights the importance of making financial decisions with both wisdom and integrity, rather than just focusing on profit. Instead of simply pointing out similarities, Dickson lays out a clear plan to help readers see how their beliefs can guide their financial choices.

Author Lance Dickson writes with remarkable clarity, making complex financial and theological concepts accessible to a broad audience. He explains things in a way that’s easy to understand, blending Bible teachings with real-world money advice. The book focuses on finding balance and making ethical financial decisions, rather than just chasing wealth. It pushes back against the idea that success is only about making more money and instead encourages responsible, long-term choices. Dickson’s kind and thoughtful approach makes the book feel more like a meaningful conversation rather than just a financial guide. His writing shows he truly cares about helping people see money in a way that connects with their values. It’s a great resource for those who want to think more deeply about how faith can shape their approach to money and a unique read for anyone looking for a fresh perspective on life. Lance Dickson's Godly Finance: Wisdom of the Ancients is a godly guide to financial success. The advice contained is biblically based and practical. Once a balance is achieved, one needs to learn the principle of the power of giving. Biblically, we receive as we give. We will see our wealth grow when we commit to the long haul in finances. Lance reminds us that things can be replaced, but lost time is gone forever. To be successful, we need to use our time wisely. Many people don’t understand the magic of compound interest, but Lance explains it well. This book covers the major areas of financial management that lead to the ability to build wealth. One of the most dangerous enemies of wealth-building is consumer debt. Lance will help you disarm the enemy. One area often left out of financial books is the need to develop human capital. I love the way Lance handled this section. Overall, this great book on finances is based on God’s Word.

Godly Finance by Lance Dickson is about so much more than handling finances. While most financial books deal with the nuts and bolts of budgeting, investing, and giving, Lance goes far beyond this and majors in relationships, first with God and then with others. The author makes the sometimes complex components of wealth accumulation simple to understand. He speaks from years of experience and wants the reader to learn biblically sound financial principles. Among the needed knowledge, Lance provides information on the magic of compound interest and the Rule of 72. Not only does this book give biblical references for each section, but it also includes the text of the references, which is a nice addition. I was trained by Larry Burkett and spent over thirty years doing financial counseling as a pastoral counselor. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

Godly Finances by Lance Dickson found me at a time in my life when I greatly benefited from the author’s wisdom. I really enjoyed reading this book and loved how the author broke down the concepts in such an understandable way. As a recent college graduate working in a field that was decimated by the 2020 global pandemic, reaching my financial goals has felt like an impossible task - let alone honoring God throughout the process. What I appreciated about the book was that it was written in an accessible, friendly way. It wasn’t filled with economic jargon or technical terms, but rather real-life examples and Scriptures that kept the content relatable. When I finished the book, I was excited to take the wisdom shared and put it into practice in my own life. If you are a recent graduate or going through a life transition where finances have been challenging, I highly recommend reading this book. It not only demystifies a lot of broad financial concepts and makes them relatable, but you will feel inspired to take control of your finances in a faith-aligning way.

Is money inherently evil? Godly Finance: Wisdom of the Ancients is a practical guide to wealth creation that explores this question and the divide between conventional financial thinking and the scriptures. Lance Dickson examines biblical texts and relates them to everyday living. The Bible has a surprising number of references to money, and the author quotes many of them to form a cohesive whole. He points out that wealth is not entirely at odds with God’s teachings. It is a matter of intention and attitude. It should be understood that money is merely a means of exchange and not an end in itself as we cannot serve two masters. We should also be honest in our dealings and not reap where we did not sow. Being rich for the sake of consumption or ego is very different from being financially sound, providing for your family's needs, or setting aside a fund for emergencies. Then there is the question of charity. The Bible encourages us to give freely to the church and those in need, as well as learn to receive. It is a question of achieving balance. Prayer and the scriptures will provide clarity in that regard. Readers should educate themselves on money matters and build a solid financial foundation for the future in alignment with God.

Lance Dickson has identified the pressing need for society to take a fresh look at money and the prevailing attitudes toward it. He points out that wealth creation should start at an early age by cultivating a mentality of saving as opposed to spending. Healthy financial habits learned when young will bear fruit during the retirement years. Dickson draws the reader’s attention to compound interest and its impact on savings over time. He provides tables to illustrate the time value of money and the need to counter the effect of inflation. The author sounds a timely warning regarding excessive consumer debt, as well as presenting an innovative approach to speed up debt repayments and save interest. Included in the sage advice is that, unlike money, time cannot be replaced and that we should value it. Christians should exercise stewardship over money, embrace gratitude, and set an example to others. Godly Finance is a starting point for mindful financial planning whose guidelines reach far beyond Christianity. The writing style is concise and easy to read, and the tables of information are self-explanatory. The message is abundantly clear. The book is highly recommended, and suitable for a wide audience.
