Martha Ramirez teaches young readers that they should always practice safety first in her book Gonzo the Curious Cat. Gonzo is an inquisitive cat who lives on a great big farm with Farmer Louie and plenty of other animals. There is never a dull moment with Gonzo because there is always something to do or someone to play with on the farm. He loves to explore and often finds himself in precarious situations that Farmer Louie has to rescue him from. Each time Farmer Louie comes to the rescue, he reminds Gonzo that it should always be safety first!

Martha Ramirez provides plenty of valuable life lessons within the pages of Gonzo the Curious Cat. Colorful illustrations capture the eye as well as the imagination while bringing the story of Gonzo and his barnyard friends to life. As an animal lover, the illustrations put a smile on my face because they were so expressive. I can just imagine young readers pointing out each animal and matching them with their names in the story. I loved Gonzo and his many barnyard friends. Gonzo wasn't like other cats and was insecure, but Farmer Louie explained to him why being different makes you special and unique, something that we all need to hear. Each time Gonzo found himself in trouble, Farmer Louie was there to help out and remind him to always think of safety first. From stranger danger to never roaming alone, reading Gonzo the Curious Cat is a wonderful way to teach youngsters about the importance of safety first.

A wonderfully written, beautifully illustrated story that will introduce youngsters to many different animals while also teaching them several invaluable life lessons. While geared toward young readers, I think cat lovers young and old will enjoy Gonzo the Curious Cat. I sincerely hope the author decides to write another story using Gonzo and his barnyard friends.
