Gracie and the Perfect Painting is a delightful children’s story by Rev. Michael Wuehler. Written as part of his Proud Papa Series of Children’s Books and named for his eldest granddaughter, it follows the adventures of Grace as she navigates a world impacted by the masking and safe distancing requirements of the COVID-19 pandemic. Grace is a talented girl, both artistically and athletically. She’s also the proud owner of a dog named Kilo whose neighborhood antics get Grace into trouble but also make her aware that no one is smiling anymore. She decides to paint smiles on fabric masks and give them away to make people laugh again. But how can she raise the money and get the help to have so many masks sewn?
In Gracie and the Perfect Painting, Rev. Michael Wuehler gives us a story from the heart that is both entertaining and uplifting. Grace is a wonderful character, friendly and intelligent, who cares for those in her life, whether it’s her family, her pet Kilo, her swim team and coach, her best friend Diya, or her neighbors. She’s very toughminded and courageous for her age but in a kind and compassionate way. A project that starts out as a wish to give a few people a smile and a laugh during trying times becomes something much greater and deeper. The narrative moves at a good pace from one phase of Grace’s adventures to another and incorporates the roles of Grace’s family, coach, friend, teammates, and neighbors in an utterly beautiful way.
