If Ivy could just stick to snapping pictures of cheating spouses as ordered by her boss at the P.I. firm that she works for, her life would be much simpler. However, she has other problems, her neighbors in her classy suburb have secrets and she knows about them. Carmen Fox reveals those secrets in Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles. Her BFF is a vampire, her next door neighbor is a werewolf and Ivy has the ability to not only identify them, but to resist them with Oldworld skills of her own. With that as the beginning to the problems stirring in the neighborhood it would be enough; however, Ivy stumbles upon a murder committed by demons of a very powerful sort. She has her suspicions that they are after a talisman or icon with special powers, but that isn't the whole story. When she is abducted and another demon suddenly shows up in her life, she begins to learn the truth about her father, her family ties and receives explanations to some of the strange behaviors that are a part of an internal nature that she wasn't aware of. With all sorts of desires for the men who have suddenly appeared in her life, being careful and resisting a genetic tendency toward sensuous desire have become extremely difficult, especially when she's wrapped up in an entirely twisted plot where she feels as if she is only a pawn.

Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles is an awesome addition to the Urban Fantasy genre and kicks the series off with a bang. Carmen Fox has created a heroine with so much appeal that readers, even men, suddenly feel like they are wrapped up in Ivy's skin. Reminiscent of Stephanie Plum, the delightful mix of klutz, personality and latent sensuality make Ivy completely irresistible. The story line moves at a rapid pace, keeping you turning pages and stirring emotional intrigue and suspense from beginning to end. Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles is an action packed thriller with all sorts of seductive sizzle. A must-read!

Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles, Volume One is an urban fantasy written by Carmen Fox. Ivy Bell is a private investigator who loves what she does, but her nocturnal surveillance of a cheating spouse lands her in hot water with her neighbor, the hot-tempered and hunky werewolf, Parker Reeves. He's convinced that she was spying on him until she shows him the digital images of her subject. Parker has no idea she's aware that he's a shifter. Ivy was the personal play toy of a demon lord named Lathan, whose torments are replayed in her dreams, which have persisted despite it being four years since she escaped from him. Something about her experiences there also left her with the ability to recognize shifters. When she returns home from her evening’s surveillance and finds a letter from Lathan waiting for her, it's as though those dreams are about to come true. Ivy's been waiting for her trust fund to come through so she can go into hiding and finally feel secure, but she's starting to wonder if getting her dream house will happen quickly enough.

Carmen Fox's urban fantasy, Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles, Volume One, is a fast-paced and exciting paranormal investigator novel. Ivy is a strong and resourceful woman whose coming of age is going to put everything she's ever believed about herself into question. Fox's paranormal sleuth adroitly channels Hammett's noir sleuth while adding her own distinctive touches of humor. Florian, Ivy's vampire best friend and sidekick, is a fabulous character, and their partnership/friendship is dynamic and fun to experience. Fox has created an intriguing and believable mythology that elevates this urban fantasy above the pack and gives it an epic fantasy feel as well. Fox's characters are well-defined and engaging, and her plot is unpredictable and fresh. I had a marvelous time reading Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles, Volume One and am looking forward to the next volume in this series. Guarded is highly recommended.

Ivy believes she is simply going about her work as a private investigator, but her boss' daughter and ultimately her boss go missing. The thing is Ivy is far more than a simple human doing her job. Not long ago she escaped a perversely evil being and he, Lathan, isn't ready to let her go. Yet, the nasty evil she begins to face on Earth may or may not be completely connected to Lathan and his determined attempts to bring her back under his control. Ivy, after hitting her 25th birthday, has come to have a very high sex drive, and this adds a lot to the mystery of the story. Lathan had claimed her and, understanding the magic behind her sex drive, had amped up his attempts to reclaim her. Yet, she meets other men that make her head spin. Waylon, Parker, and Greg all offer opportunities for a number of very sexy scenes within Guarded. In fact, she has sex with one, becomes engaged to another, and has to fight for her life from the other. But, what about Florian, her best friend? His sexuality is brought into the equation as well. In the midst of a love story and sexy heat, there is an excellent mystery unfolding as Ivy tries to find and save her boss, his daughter, and hundreds, maybe thousands of trapped souls. With success at her fingertips, literally at times, Ivy continues to struggle with who her heart truly belongs to.

Absolutely intriguing, mysterious and unique, Guarded: The Silverton Chronicles by Carmen Fox grabbed my attention from the beginning and kept me captivated until the end. Carmen Fox's Guarded was sexy and very interesting from the first few lines. There was no obvious end in sight. My curiosity only increased as I moved through the book. I could hardly wait to discover the conclusion. Guarded will turn you on mentally while igniting your sex drive all at the same time. Relish this one! It's delicious.
