Happy Birthday Rambee Boo! by Reena Korde Pagnoni is a delightful and colorful children’s book that tells the story of a small doggie who is getting ready to celebrate his second birthday. As the day approaches, Rambee Boo starts imagining that there are hints of a possible surprise party for him, which leads him to make several observations and draw conclusions that are usually wrong. He thinks everything could be a clue for his birthday. With every discovery, curiosity grows about what will happen on his special day. The colorful illustrations by Frances Espanol and the rhymes bring the story to a very cute ending.
I enjoyed reading Happy Birthday Rambee Boo! by Reena Korde Pagnoni because it is a cute little book that is sure to spark a child’s interest and curiosity about what will happen next. The rhymes were sing-song and had a nice ring to them. One of the most enjoyable parts was surely the real-life picture of a boy and his dog at the end of the story, which adds a touch of reality. The book has some discussion questions that can be asked after reading the story together. I believe that the discussion questions would help readers become more involved in the story by talking about what happened and how each child would celebrate their birthday. I would recommend this book to families and classrooms with young children because it can spark children’s imaginations while also encouraging discussion and reflection on the story at an age-appropriate level.
