Charlie Hardy has had a bad couple of years. Not only did he catch his wife cheating, but the Albanian mob tried to kill the family. In hiding and under the protection of the FBI, Charlie works as security--watching the homes of the wealthy while they go off to play. He finds himself tangled in a web of accusations regarding the murder of a famous actress. Then he is kidnapped. Beaten, shot in the head and disabled for life, he wakes to discover that he is now a prisoner in a top secret facility where the guards and the prisoners are brainwashed and somewhat demented. Five years later, there is an epiphany which leads to a break that lands him back up top where, instead of freedom, he must once again succumb to "them" for the sake of saving his family once again.

This is a tale with so many twists and so much darkness that you would never expect humor. But, luckily the author has a gift for one-liners that pull a spontaneous laugh and a grin where perhaps it should not. There is a lot of profanity which might bother some and a few violent scenes. Both are within the context of the story. It was amazing to me how sucked in I quickly became, looking forward to each new sentence. However, and this is not meant to be a spoiler but a warning, the abrupt cliffhanger at the end will absolutely piss you off!
