Henry's Morning Routine is a fun and engaging picture book for young children that is written and illustrated by Marielle Lamothe. Henry is not fond of getting up in the morning as he enjoys his sleep too much. He has a routine for morning, afternoon, and night to make sure that his day goes according to plan and is uplifting and productive. Before he heads out the door, he also has a checklist to make sure that everything is accounted for and packed into his huge briefcase. Marielle includes a picture for young children to color in or draw out, asking them what their favorite thing is to do in the morning: breakfast, clean up, or bath time.
Marielle Lamothe starts Henry's Morning Routine with a statement aimed at empowering and helping young children to improve themselves. She writes: “Having a daily routine can help you have an amazing start to your day”. Even though Henry wakes up grumpy, he faces the day with zest because of his morning routine, which is also a form of goal setting, as well as a means to avoid procrastination. The illustrations are vibrant and playful, and made me feel like giggling (there is one of Henry in the shower where he sings into his brush, as if holding a microphone). The color-in section adds an extra touch, and Marielle's big smile in her author's picture is great as well. Altogether, Henry's Morning Routine is an entertaining book for youngsters and parents, and teachers will appreciate its educational value.
