Melinda Taliancich Falgoust’s book, Her Royal Majesty, the Superhero Bride of Frankenstein, is an adorable story for children. When third grader, Lizzie McGillicuddy, has an embarrassing incident with toilet paper at school, she turns it into something positive. By staying positive she turns into a hero, saves the day, and makes unique Halloween costumes.

I honestly loved Her Royal Majesty, the Superhero Bride of Frankenstein. It made me remember what it was like to be a child and to turn a piece of garbage into something fun. I also loved how Falgoust turned Lizzie’s toilet paper incident into something so fun. I read this story with my four-year-old daughter and it opened her eyes to paper products becoming clothes. The story impressed her so much that now ALL of her stuffed animals are wearing tissue hats and dresses. The message of this story is one that has been told hundreds of times, but this is by far my favorite telling and has had the most impact on me and my child. To have the courage to turn something very embarrassing into something so good is something I wish I could do. Seeing how Lizzie was able to do it was inspirational.

The story itself has a nice flow to it. The illustrations, which were also drawn by Falgoust, are cute and colorful. My daughter really enjoyed how each costume mentioned was drawn. These drawings are what gave her the idea for her stuffed animals’ new clothes. This is a book that I will definitely keep in my collection and read over and over again. I recommend this book to anyone with young kids or anyone who has ever had toilet paper stuck to their shoe.
