Christopher J. Martin’s memoir Homosexuality: Can The Penitent Be Healed? My Journey presents his personal and theological views of homosexuality through a biblical lens. He contrasts same-sex marriage against God’s original design of binary male and female heterosexual marriage. Martin references multiple biblical passages employed to strengthen his argument that homosexuality is condemned and calls for repentance and healing through faith in Jesus Christ, including Leviticus, Romans, and Genesis. He speaks on reparative therapy, citing psychological research and testimonies of change, including his own experience of overcoming same-sex attraction. Martin recounts complications within church communities, spiritual struggles, and his eventual ordination and marriage. Throughout, he emphasizes sanctification, obedience, and reliance on God’s grace as essential for healing and ministry.

Homosexuality by Christopher J. Martin is written in a conversational style that closely resembles a traditional Christian testimony. In it, Martin openly shares deeply personal and often difficult experiences, demonstrating notable courage in addressing topics many might avoid. While I do not necessarily agree with all his views, I respect his perspective and the sincerity with which he presents his journey. Martin does well in offering an alternative approach to understanding homosexuality from a faith-based standpoint, and will appeal to readers seeking guidance outside secular narratives. Martin’s account includes moments of conflict within church settings, his path to ministry, and the role of prayer and faith in his ongoing transformation. This work provides a transparent and unapologetic look at one man’s commitment to his beliefs, which may encourage others to explore similar questions about identity and spirituality.
