In the 2nd book of the Honeybee's Life Cycle by Jeanette Vuuren, we get to learn so much about bees! The age group is from about five to seven years of age, and the book is tailored to that with bright colors and drawings to coincide with the educational and nature material that provide learning and fun! The book explains how bees start off as tiny eggs, and then the life cycle that transforms them from the eggs, to larvae, and further until you have yourself a full-class bee! The book includes diagrams, pictures, and many other kinds of tools for educational and fun learning. While I thought that the drawings looked a little computer generated and not as "fun" as they could be, they were definitely bright and fit right along with the text of the book.
I absolutely love the idea of this series. I have recently begun to delve into the world of bees, and through both literature and practice, have developed a huge appreciation for these flying and yes, sometimes stinging friends. Honey is amazing, and bees are amazing, and it's time that we teach our kids about what an awesome little creature a bee can be! There shouldn't be fear from bees as long as kids are taught to respect and appreciate these little guys! Plus they make some of the most delicious stuff on the planet! Honey! Like some kids glomm on to pokemon names or dinosaur species, it's easy to see kids get excited about queen bees and royal jelly, and for a whole new generation to start appreciating our buzzing friends! A great read for kids and parents alike.
