In her delightful travelogue, Honeymoon at Sea: How I Found Myself Living on a Small Boat, Jennifer Silva Redmond documents her journeys with her husband, Russell, threading intriguing bits about her life before their marriage into the story. In 1989, the newlyweds began their journey in their 26-foot boat, Watchfire, after deciding to spend their honeymoon sailing. They headed to Cabo San Lucas, spent nearly a year in the Sea of Cortez, and later went to Panama. In 1996, they sailed to Mexico again. Redmond explores her background and relationship with Russell before their honeymoon. She covers her experiences in New York as an aspiring actress and the friendships she made during her stay in the city.
Redmond does a great job of blending her background and travel experiences to create an absorbing memoir with many humorous and heart-warming moments. Along the way, the couple encounters many captivating characters, and interesting and funny conversations that they have with the people they meet are included throughout the story. Redmond shares the joys and challenges of living at sea, painting a realistic picture of their encounters. She beautifully examines themes about love, friendship, taking a leap, and learning on the go in the memoir. The work is thoughtful, and the reflections about their travels and personal lives are fascinating. Honeymoon at Sea by Jennifer Silva Redmond is a wonderful, engaging memoir with absorbing characters and encounters. It is skillfully written and merges their earlier lives with their exciting travels.
