Hooked by You by Kate Sweden is book three in the Wilder Horizons series. It’s a contemporary romantic comedy that follows Emme’s story. It opens with Summer, the eldest of six sisters, drafting Emme to go to Patagonia and secure a contract before their competitor, Summit Expeditions, swoops in and seals the deal. With that, Emme arrives at Refugio Cielo, a remote Patagonian lodge owned by Luc Boreau. She’s representing Wilder Horizons and has a clear and professional objective tied to the future of the property. But what starts as a cut-and-dried business arrangement quickly turns when a snowstorm traps them and other lodge guests together on the mountain. There is rising tension and mounting responsibilities, but Emme also sees the heart behind Luc’s work. Between negotiating the contract and the unexpected intimacy, Emme and Luc must face the reality that she will be departing soon. But will Emme decide what this whole experience means for her and her carefully structured life?
Kate Sweden incorporates a wonderful mix of humor, heart, and clever dialogue into the story. The setting of forced proximity between the main characters made the pacing even tighter and appropriate. I loved how she incorporated Spanish without overdoing it. There were moments when I laughed, like when Emme’s sister, Rayann, told her not to fall in love with a mountain man. The dual perspectives were done well, and I was able to follow Emme’s internal conflicts and Luc’s guarded vulnerability. The slow-burning chemistry and the layered professional stakes gave the story the perfect emotional charge. Readers who loved K.A. Tucker’s The Simple Wild would appreciate Hooked by You for its remote mountain setting and emotional depth.
