House of Scorpio by Whitney Estenson is the fourth and final book in The Ascendant series. Six months have passed since Roman’s world changed forever. Six months since Kyndal sacrificed herself to Set so she could save those she loves. Under Set’s control, Kyndal faces suffering and cruelty and is pushed to fight every day. Roman would do anything to reunite with Kyndal and has since returned with his friends to the island of Anwen where they’re forced to wait on the sidelines. Roman refuses to give up hope, even when Kyndal shocks him by saying she doesn’t want to be found and pushes Roman to devise a new plan to save his Rafiq. As the war draws closer, a startling sacrifice could be the key to stopping Set, but it could cost them everything.
This exciting conclusion to Whitney Estenson’s series weaves a unique twist on the zodiac with a mythology that brings the world to life. The previous installments introduced Kyndal and Roman’s powerful connection and explored their growing chemistry and their Rafiq bond. Kyndal’s foray into this world hasn’t been an easy one and has been met with chaos, strife, battles, sacrifice, and despair. Kyndal's journey has seen her discover herself as a hero and a fighter, and this is no small feat as she is pushed to her limits. The bonds Kyndal has made have a lasting impact on her and their training has given her an inner strength that keeps her going. Estenson takes everything up a notch as they prepare for one final battle that could lead to the ultimate sacrifice.
The relationship between Kyndal and Roman is at the heart of the story as they continue to fight to be together and their separation helps them discover more about their bond. The romance between them is a nice balance to the action-packed fight sequences. The other characters receive their own moments that give them a satisfying ending and set them on the path that the previous books have outlined. The conclusion delivers an adventure that ups the action, romance, and fight scenes with House of Scorpio taking you on one last wild ride.
