How to Master Your Inner Superman: A Guide for Male Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse Using Superman to Help Conquer the Need for Facades by Kenneth Rogers, Jr. tackles the topic of sexual abuse on men and gives important lessons on how to heal from the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. The book also outlines how to understand Batman and Superman as superheroes, fictional characters, and their ability to evoke powerful emotions in readers of all age groups and genders. This guide focuses on three forms of therapy that can help conquer the need to conceal emotions and feelings by putting up a good front; they are Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).
How to Master Your Inner Superman is an extension of the author's recovery and his experiences, story, and tips will help all survivors, especially men, to deal with their trauma after being sexually abused. Everyone loves Superman and the author uses the metaphor of Clark Kent aka Superman to tell his readers how erroneous it is to live behind a façade of false safety which carries their insecurities into their adulthood. A male survivor of childhood sexual abuse might always be tempted to adopt a Clark Kent façade in fear of their childhood traumas influencing their future relationships. Living behind a Clark Kent façade also means lack of intimacy and since the author speaks about Superman and the Clark Kent façade, the book will help many readers, especially the sexually abused, to understand and connect with what he is trying to convey. The approach to the topic is unique and different and Kenneth Rogers, Jr. makes it easy for readers to understand using Clark's actions. It is a good book for therapists and counselors to use for sessions with their clients to help them deal with their Superman façade and conquer it, and be true to themselves. The author has dealt with the topic in a very structured, and methodical way and will help readers to create healthy boundaries and a safe environment for themselves.
