Two of the most important spiritual disciplines in Christian life are prayer and Bible reading/study. Lee Ann Rubsam is very experienced at both and shares her wisdom on these two matters in How to Pray and Read the Bible. The first three-fourths of this book are devoted to prayer. Prayer is like breathing. We will not live long without breathing. As we breathe, we will grow hungry. Likewise, Bible reading/study is like eating. We are to feast on the Word of God. Lee Ann wisely advises that the reader pick a Bible translation to read comfortably. If you choose a version you can’t understand easily, you will soon stop reading. Pick a translation and not a paraphrase. Be sure the translation is as close to word-for-word as possible. If you get a study Bible with notes and commentary, remember that the notes and commentary are not inspired. They may help your study, but be sure it all lines up with the Word of the Bible.
Lee Ann Rubsam is a mature Christian with years of experience in helping Christians understand prayer and the Christian walk better. She has authored How to Pray and Read the Bible as a guidebook for new Christians. In addition, she is incredibly gifted in teaching intercession. You can feel Lee Ann’s passion for the Lord as you read the pages of this little book. Many young Christians fear that they will not pray or read the Bible correctly. Lee Ann reminds them that there are no set rules. The important thing is to just do it. Lee Ann’s style is of someone beside you to encourage and guide you to a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Even if you do not believe that speaking in tongues is a spiritual gift for today’s Christians, you will learn much from this book.
