How to Put an Astronaut to Bed is a bedtime picture book by Ashley Hohmann that follows Alex, a young astronaut, as he prepares for bed. After his long, tiring day of exploring, the astronaut returns home to have a delicious meal. He enjoys his pizza and has some ice cream for dessert. After his meal, he takes a bath with his beloved Ducky, washing away the dirt from his adventurous day. Alex loves listening to music and stories, so to help him drift off to sleep, someone reads him a story or two and sings him a gentle lullaby. Lastly, it's important to give him a sip of water, as astronauts can get thirsty at night.
Ashley Hohmann's storybook, How to Put an Astronaut to Bed, beautifully illustrates a comforting bedtime routine, highlighting the significance of winding down after an adventurous day. It captures the essence of nurturing a child's imagination while establishing a peaceful bedtime ritual, ensuring that young ones feel safe, loved, and well-cared for. Alex is an endearing character with whom children will easily connect. His fondness for pizza and ice cream, along with his habit of bathing with his Ducky, makes him relatable. The idea of him being an astronaut adds an inspiring touch, encouraging young readers to dream big and explore the impossible. The book has an engaging story with colorful illustrations that brighten the pages. The night and space themes are prominent in the artwork, perfectly aligning with the narrative. This is a wonderful read, and I highly recommend adding it to your children's bedtime collection for its charming depiction of a soothing bedtime routine.
