Summer is a waitress, and she’s living a lie. Huck is a wannabe biker, and he’s also living a lie. At some point, they share their secrets and hope like crazy that the other person is willing to keep this to themselves. That’s the starting point of Huck’s Legacy by Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy, and it’s a good hook. Summer is on the run from some trouble she’d rather not follow her, and Huck is actually an undercover DEA agent trying to investigate a dangerous motorcycle gang. When his cover is blown, they’re forced to rely on each other to stay alive. This story unfolds in the heart of Hollywood, which adds a gritty undertone to the plot and serves as the third main character.

Lee Ann Sontheimer Murphy did a good job of writing this fast-paced romantic tale of love, justice, and betrayal. From the moment Huck spots Summer, he’s intrigued, and from there, the romance aspect of the story heats up rather quickly, which was fine because it added to the heightened suspense of Huck’s Legacy. There were times the story got a little repetitive, but it did not detract from the plot; if anything, it added to the inner turmoil Huck and Summer felt. The danger was palpable as the events played out, and the romance element was just as realistic because the stakes were life and death. Huck’s Legacy was an entertaining read that kept me interested until the very end.
