I Am Funny Like That: A Funny Look at Life by Helen C. Escott made me laugh out loud many times, shake my head, and say "WOW, I can relate to that." Several times I had to read my husband a passage that was so us, I just had to share it. Every short story has an "I known what you mean, I’ve thought that too" feeling. There was no order or pattern to the collection, rather it just dealt with such funny incidents as granny panties, what do they really look like; what does sexy lingerie consist of; the stress of Christmas decorating; fathers, mothers and grandmas; going to the bathroom; the misery of wearing Spanx; shopping; tweenagers; getting along with our daughters and so much more.

It is impossible not to look at the funny side of how we act and what we say after reading I Am Funny Like That. Helen C. Escott has taken the everyday world and found humor and happiness in all kinds of situations. If every once in a while you like escaping the mystery, intrigue, romance, science fiction stories, then this is a must-read. I could so relate and found myself laughing both at myself and with Helen Escott in so many of the stories that is impossible not to give this book a five star rating, as it truly is all it claims to be – A Funny Look at Life.

There is no doubt about it: Helen C. Escott, author of I Am Funny Like That, is a very funny lady who loves to laugh, and loves to make others laugh with her. Just look at that book cover! So clever and it sets the mood of I am Funny Like That before you even open the book. Helen C. Escott just happens to be very good at making people, especially women, laugh. Her blog by the same name has had over 100,000 visitors. Obviously, she’s certainly struck a chord with all who need a good laugh…and who doesn’t? So it’s only good sense to do as Helen C. Escott has now done and that is to compile those hilarious blog posts into a book. Producing a book from your blog posts is today becoming a popular practice. Now some might think why buy the book when you can just go online and read the blog? That's true. But not everyone has time for or likes reading computer screens. So a book makes good sense.

In I Am Funny Like That, Helen C. Escott chatters on happily about all the things most of us, especially women, live with, enjoy, and groan about from day to day. You find yourself instantly relating to her. In almost every post, I recognized myself. She agonizes over her menopausal belly which refuses to fit neatly into her spandex underwear. So do I. She curses those miserable chin hairs that belong on her husband’s chin and not hers. Ditto! And while I didn’t read 50 Shades of Grey as Helen did, like her I wondered if I could also become famous by writing a version of that book for women my age. When she decides she needs some sexy new lingerie (wonder if 50 Shades had anything to do with that?) she discovers to her surprise, that today’s modern girls wear bras with metal tassels. Not really her kind of thing, nor mine!

Helen also has a habit, as most of us do, of completing her husband’s sentences in her head with her own thoughts, and then wondering how she misunderstood what he was trying to say. Me too. You too? And like so many of us who have children, she also gets annoyed with everyone telling her how to raise a child, especially when the advice comes from those who’ve never had one. Boy, have I met a lot of those! Along with recognizing myself in so much of what Helen C. Escott chatters on about in I Am Funny Like That, I particularly enjoyed her clever one liners e.g. “Can you imagine if Elvis sent out a tweet every time he moved? The whole internet would be all shook up.”

She could be a stand-up comedian as she pops this type of stuff out. It’s obvious she loves playing on and with words, She has a very sharp wit you can’t help but admire. At the same time, when she muses on the fact that modern teens would rather be famous than intelligent, while women in so many cultures would just love the opportunity to get an education, you know that behind the laughter is a caring, deep, and thoughtful woman.

I am Funny Like That by Helen C. Escott is the kind book I dreamed of writing, the kind Erma Bombeck was famous for: a book that hits home with homemakers on so many levels. I forgive Helen for publishing a book I wanted to write because she's done such a great job. I really enjoyed reading I am Funny Like That, because I believe we can never have too much laughter, only too little. So thanks, Helen, for giving me more reasons to smile in my sometimes not so funny life.

I Am Funny Like That: A Funny Look At Life by Helen C. Escott is a heartwarming compilation of humorous stories that will make you laugh and cry. Written first as a blog, the author turned her very funny and meaningful stories into a large, funny book about life! A perfect book for a mother, daughter, or even spouses to read together. I Am Funny Like That will have you rolling on the floor with laughter or crying in sympathy with the author. The author did a fantastic job of showing you how to keep a humorous outlook as one travels the ups and downs on life's emotional roller coaster. This book is a must-read for the frazzled mother and the menopausal woman. It helps remind us that life is made up of little moments; only we have the power to decide how to respond to them. Responding with humor is always best.

Being a mother, I could easily relate to the author's stories. Life changes when you have a child, but for the better. At times, in the daily battles, the sweat, grime and snot, the sickness, the disappointments and heartache, and the constant, desperate need to be the Best Mom, we forget to have fun. We forget to be happy. We forget to just be in the moment. I Am Funny Like That: A Funny Look At Life by Helen C. Escott reminded me to stop and enjoy my life, my child, and forget about what other people think about me and about my family. It reminded me to laugh when a mishap happens instead of flipping out because it's another mess, another thing for me to deal with. It reminded me, it's Life. I am grateful that the author took the time to remember. This book is both funny and inspirational and would make a great gift.

I Love the book as you know but needed to tell you ...I have a manager in Montreal who is a strong woman and I wanted to share with her a piece of the woman who inspired me around 15 years ago when I was a single mother living in the projects. I'm not sure if I ever told you what an impact you had on me all those years ago, but I can say that you have a major role in where I am today just by being you.

Anyway I shared with her some of your book and she has preordered 3 for her friends and said you are "very funny and inspiring. She is quite a lady" and I just had to let you know that yes you truly are! Thank you for being you!
