Rachel Tepfer Copeland's I Can Be A Superhero During A Fire Drill: Super Safety Series is a children’s educational picture book about the responsibilities of what is required when a fire drill goes off. It’s an important tool for children who may have special needs or are young and aren’t aware of how to deal with the anxieties that might arise and what rules need to be followed. The illustrations created by artist Jenna Ivy are bright and colorful which will keep children entertained as well as the storytelling.
I Can Be A Superhero During A Fire Drill is a book that I didn’t realize was needed until I read the title. This is definitely needed in every classroom so that children can feel more confident about what they are responsible for. What I appreciated the most was that they called the responsibilities “jobs” because every little kid wants to be grown up already. Calling the responsibilities jobs will bring their attention and focus around even quicker than simply being told what they have to do.
The language at times is repetitive, but in order for children to be able to remember everything they need to do, I feel that it almost has to be somewhat repetitive in nature. We tend to take fire drills in school somewhat for granted, and this book helps children understand what their duties are in order to stay safe. I highly recommend I Can Be A Superhero During A Fire Drill by Rachel Tepfer Copeland.
