How far can a parent’s love really reach? In I Love You to the Moon! by Ashley Hohmann, a bedtime conversation turns into a playful journey across the solar system. When Mom tells Alex she loves him all the way to the sun, Alex insists that’s not far enough, so together, with their imaginations in full gear, they “journey” from planet to planet, each one farther away but still not enough to match how much love Alex feels from his mother. As they compare distances to Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and beyond, they grow closer with every moment, with gentle humor and affection that’s larger than each page. With a warm, reassuring tone and an imaginative twist, I Love You to the Moon! is a delightful story for families to celebrate saying “I love you,” whether it's to the moon or much, much farther.
From an educator’s perspective, I really appreciate how I Love You to the Moon! by Ashley Hohmann is a book about love that also sparks curiosity about the vastness of space. It would make an excellent read-aloud because of its repetitive wording. I can easily hear children joining in on “reading” the story and building early literacy and prediction skills. It could also begin discussions on space, families, and the many ways we connect. It’s also a perfect choice for morning meetings, bedtime routines, or classroom discussions about how we show love in different ways. The bright, colorful images are sure to keep any child’s attention and may spark conversations of their own. This wonderful children’s book belongs in homes and classrooms for all to enjoy.
