Charlie’s hand has always been different. In the center of his palm is something strange. No doctor has ever been able to explain it. The hand works fine but in the center of the hand is something unbiological. Seizures have plagued Charlie since he was a young child. He knows they come from the hand. The doctors never believed him but he knows. His hand is in control.

The first 60 or more pages of this book define the character of Charlie. He calls himself ugly. He hates his job as a line cook at a nice seafood restaurant. He plots a way to poison the patrons. Inside he is warped, perhaps it is the hand. Perhaps it was his childhood. Regardless he is evil inside.

A mysterious young woman comes into his life. Her name is Annabelle. She leads him to his purpose, destroy the virus called human.

Fleeing from the cops Charles steals a car not realizing a child is inside. Eddie does not fear Charlie. “You are death…You are the end…the world withers at your feet. It begs for mercy, but you laugh and stomp it into silence.”

A change has taken place in Charlie. Anyone he to   touches, even to merely brush past them, is doomed. His touch brings death within 24 hours. It spreads like a virus. Anyone they touch will die within 24 hours and it continues.

Charlie has become attached to Eddie and does not want him to die. Yet he goes on a killing spree. Touching people offering them hell disguised in as a blessing from Christ.
Someone is in control but whom? Are Charlie, Annabelle and Eddie just pawns is a game of destruction?

I Will Rise is a uniquely strange book that will please fans of horror. The plot is creative and has great potential. It is absorbing and more than a little alarming. However, it could use a bit more work. There is a lot of repetition; several times I paused to see if I was on the wrong page thinking “didn’t I read this earlier.” There seemed to be filler in several areas; stuff that just wasn’t needed. This is a good book. With a bit more work Michael Louis Calvillo can have a best seller.
