If Shapes Could Talk is a children's book by Rella B. The story follows a purple rhombus named Rhombus. Rhombus lives happily with her loving family. Her father is a square and her mother is a triangle. When Rhombus goes to school, she notices that the other students' families are different shapes. At first, Rhombus feels self-conscious, but she soon learns that each family is special in its own way. At school, Rhombus meets a hexagon named Maxine. Maxine lives in a beautiful house with so many things to do and Rhombus starts feeling jealous. Through her friendship with Maxine, Rhombus learns gratitude and discovers the things that truly matter in life. This book celebrates diversity and teaches an important lesson about acceptance.
The vibrant illustrations were created by Wendy S. The rhymes are gentle throughout the book. I believe that children will delight in Rhombus' journey of discovery as she realizes that true happiness comes from accepting change and cherishing the unique qualities of those around us. The narrative also subtly touches on social-emotional themes like self-esteem, empathy, and gratitude. Author Rella B.'s writing is both accessible and endearing, making this an ideal read-aloud for young audiences. Together, the author and artist have created a heartwarming tale that encourages readers to appreciate the beautiful variety in our world. I highly recommend If Shapes Could Talk for families looking to foster inclusivity and celebrate diversity from an early age. This delightful picture book will leave children feeling valued and inspired to embrace their special qualities.
