Creager: The Triggers in His Mind Saga by L Hanson follows a high-stakes manhunt and law enforcement operation after a violent airplane hijacking enables Yul Granich, a dangerous criminal with cartel connections, to escape custody. Granich immediately moves to consolidate his power, enforce control over associates, and orchestrate crimes that include kidnappings, ritualistic murders, and thefts linked to organized crime. Detective Benjamin Creager, FBI agents, tribal police, and other investigators track multiple overlapping threats, including missing teens, stolen cargo, mercenary attacks, and coordinated robberies targeting jewelry stores. As Granich’s network and hired operatives—like Darling and her mercenary team—carry out violent actions against law enforcement and civilians, Creager and the federal team uncover connections to cartel operations, Aryan Brotherhood activity, and international criminal actors like the Yakuza. Simultaneously, the story follows separate investigators tracing high-value thefts and murders across state lines, linking them back to Granich’s criminal empire while law enforcement races to prevent further deaths and secure key witnesses.
Creager: The Triggers in His Mind Saga by L Hanson is a really exciting suspense thriller, and the third book in the Creager Adventure series, but it does read perfectly well as a standalone. Hanson does an exceptional job of mounting a sprawling investigation that moves across Las Vegas, Phoenix, tribal lands, and international networks. There are so many moving pieces, with Creager coordinating overlapping cases, linking robberies, bomb threats, and syndicate activity, while Leilani pursues intersecting leads, and Brown manages public recognition alongside his own private strain. The tribal aspects are the most interesting to me, particularly the characters of Chief Niwot and Hosa Sam, who are central to events on the reservations. Hanson leans into the real-world issues of murders and disappearances in tribal communities, which also influence the trajectory of multiple investigations. There are no filler subplots, and every event triggers a chain of consequences, connecting locations, agencies, and characters through tangible cause-and-effect. The result is a methodical and fast-paced installment that drives both the story and characters. Very highly recommended.
