In Immensus, Vincent Piana's emotionally rich and futuristically imaginative novel is centered around fourteen-year-old Brian Salman, a gifted teen coping with the devastating loss of his mother. Living in Chicago with his grieving father, Adio, Brian’s dream of visiting ERE IMMENSUS - a groundbreaking space exploration company - becomes a turning point. What begins as a father-son pilgrimage to fulfill a promise evolves into a life-altering opportunity when they meet Killian Wells, the enigmatic billionaire behind the company. As Brian is drawn into a world of quantum computers, spaceflight simulations, and a mysterious girl named Electra, he begins an internal healing journey. The novel blends intimate emotional reflection with the awe of scientific discovery, delivering a story that’s as much about growing up and grieving as it is about pushing humanity’s boundaries.
Vincent Piana’s Immensus moved me deeply. As a reader and writer who resonates with themes of truth, loss, and human connection, I found Brian’s struggle to process grief and trust again profoundly relatable. The story doesn’t rely only on high-tech wonders to captivate readers; it’s in the quiet moments between father and son, the subtle mistrust between classes, and the courage to let oneself be known that the novel finds its heart. Piana’s writing is accessible and poignant, blending speculative fiction with emotional authenticity. The exploration of promises - those kept, broken, and unspoken - feels especially relevant in an age where appearances often overshadow intent. Immensus reminds us that real healing comes not from escaping to the stars, but from grounding ourselves in truth, no matter how uncomfortable. This is a novel I’ll be recommending widely, not just for its futuristic vision, but for its human one.
