Author Biography

Alexander Hans Schmitt was an avid reader of speculative fiction in all its variety throughout his life. After earning degrees in philosophy and law, he decided that he was better suited for the life of a writer rather than that of an environmental lawyer. Alex worked steadily on Imperiled for eight fulfilling years until the onset of epilepsy and the side effects of antiseizure medication stalled his writing and his efforts to publish. In June of 2023 he died a sudden death following a seizure. He was 42 years old. Alex's mother, Vonnie Gene Schmitt, edited Imperiled and self-published it.

Imperiled by Alexander Hans Schmitt, with Vonnie Gene Schmitt, is an exciting space adventure that moves fast from the very start. It follows Junior Commander Anaiya Sonra, who is wrongly accused of smuggling and has to go on the run to clear her name. She pulls together an unlikely crew and sets out on a dangerous mission to find out the truth about a destroyed freight hauler and its strange cargo. With space battles, political intrigue, and nonstop action, Imperiled is a thrilling story about survival and uncovering secrets. Schmitt’s storytelling is sharp, and the world feels big and real, full of different cultures, technology, and conflicts that make everything realistic.

Alexander Hans Schmitt has created a strong and determined main character in Anaiya, making it easy to root for her as she fights her way through one challenge after another. The mix of mystery, action, and character-driven moments keeps the story exciting and full of surprises. One of the best parts is how the world-building pulls you in. The pacing is spot on—there’s tension in every moment, but there’s still time for the characters to grow and their relationships to feel real. The space battles are exciting to follow and detailed enough for hardcore sci-fi fans to enjoy all the technical and tactical bits. The mystery unfolds at just the right speed with natural plot points coming out in conversation and thrilling twists that kept me guessing right up until the end. Even the side characters are realistic, each with their own goals and personalities that make the story even richer. Overall, Imperiled is a fantastic space opera that will leave readers eager to reach the last page and I certainly recommend it.
