Incarnate: The Third Entity by Russell Marcum Jr. is a Christian thriller that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Jake McCallum was a deputy sheriff in a West Virginia county and had a pretty good life until it all went to hell. Losing his job was one thing, but being abandoned by everyone and going to prison was the toughest part. Depressed and out of his mind, Jake tried to take his life but failed. When he was released, he received a request from a preacher who wanted him to find a young boy who was the Holy Ghost incarnate. Before he knew it, Jake was trying to battle bad police officers, his past, and more enemies to get the job done. The quest to find the Holy Ghost was tough, but Jake was up for the challenge. But was it possible? Or was it just a wild goose chase?

Filled with action and a tense plot, Incarnate is the perfect story for a rainy day. I enjoyed the thrill and the mystery behind the Holy Ghost, Jake’s plight, and his struggle to get the job done. From the moment the story began, I was sucked in and enjoyed every moment of it. Jake was the perfect protagonist. He was a little complicated, determined, and ready to take chances to get the job done. I enjoyed how he was open emotionally and wasn’t afraid. Billy’s character was fascinating. He was smarter than his age, and it showed. I often felt bad for little Sarah, but she was a trooper. The descriptions were fantastic, the pace was fast, and the overall feel of the story was great. The ending was cathartic, beautiful, and entertaining. I highly recommend it!

Incarnate: The Third Entity by Russell Marcum Jr. is a Christian thriller blending biblical revelation with fantasy fiction. The story follows Jake McCallum, a former deputy sheriff in rural West Virginia, who after losing his job and being imprisoned, embarks on a divine quest upon his release. Guided by a preacher, Jake must find a young boy believed to be the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. As he battles drug dealers, corrupt officials, and demonic forces, Jake uncovers astonishing spiritual truths while trying to save the lives of the boy, his mother, and a young girl with a terminal brain tumor.

Author Russell Marcum Jr. is detailed in his portrayal of Jake McCallum’s emotional journey, taking readers from the sight of a man broken by his circumstances to one transformed by faith and divine purpose. The close narrative makes Jake a relatable and nuanced protagonist with plenty to offer, and his dialogue and interactions with the people he meets and wants to help are charged with duty, emotion, and spirit in a motivating way. The story also intertwines Christian themes with thrilling, action-packed fantasy, offering readers a unique narrative that engages both the mind and the spirit, but is never too heavy-handed and leaves the moral messages to shine through in subtle ways when the action calls for it. Russell Marcum Jr.’s Incarnate: The Third Entity is a spellbinding thriller that explores the themes of faith, spirituality, loss, and redemption while featuring a complex web of human relationships. Jake McCallum, a troubled ex-deputy, is grappling with past traumas and a haunting loss. The novel opens with Jake’s sweeping narrative, introducing readers to his life in Beecham County, West Virginia, where he faced a federal prison sentence and the haunting memories of his lost love, Sarah. Upon his release from prison, thanks to the help of a former Circuit Judge who helped Jake file his winning appeal, Jake is entrusted with a mission fraught with danger —locate a young boy who is believed to be the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. Jake faces more than he can ever imagine on this new path — ruthless drug dealers, corrupt police officers, and powerful enemies going after the boy’s mother. There is so much at stake, but does he have enough time, and can he outwit the growing number of enemies in his path?

Incarnate opens with an irresistible premise: the wrongful imprisonment of a man dutifully serving his country. Russell Marcum Jr. offers a fully drawn portrait of Jake’s psyche, exploring his inner world with detail and giving readers powerful glimpses into the darkness within, the pain of loss, and his longing for the truth. His strong bond with his brother, Nick, and his estrangement from Walker Davidson show a profound emotional conflict that propels the plot. The author uses flashbacks to create suspense and inject life into the present, revealing Jake's past as a soldier and the profound impact of his brief romance with Sarah, whose tragic fate he believes is intertwined with his own. The secondary characters, particularly the spiritual Eli Cavenaugh and the menacing Stanley Gunther, provide a backdrop that enhances the themes of alienation and redemption. Eli's journey from doubt to faith mirrors Jake’s struggle. In contrast, Stanley embodies the darker aspects of humanity—corruption and depravity. This novel is clever and entertaining, offering unforgettable characters to keep readers company.

The story follows Jake, once a deputy sheriff in rural West Virginia County, until he lost his job, was abandoned by his friends, and was sentenced to federal prison. While in a federal prison camp, a former circuit judge helps Jake file his winning appeal. Upon his release, a preacher sends him on a quest to find a young boy who is the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. But powerful enemies stand in his way, and he must beat them if he hopes to protect the life of a little girl and the young boy’s mother. This fast-paced, action-packed thriller packs many punches, and readers will be fully invested in the characters.

The narrative is emotionally rich and psychologically engaging. The author weaves moments that will tug at readers' hearts, such as when Jake bids farewell to little Sarah. He struggles with the impending loss of his freedom and the innocence and joy she represents. Jake's streams of consciousness and discussions about God with the preacher in church are other captivating moments. Russell Marcum Jr. has a gift for writing intriguing characters. While Jake is a finely drawn, genuinely flawed protagonist, the supporting cast of characters, like Connie, who has the protective instincts of a mother, and Stanley, who comes across as a well-imagined antagonist, is equally well-developed. The writing is gorgeous, and the author explores themes of freedom, revelation, redemption, and humanity throughout the narrative. Incarnate is a well-imagined and skillfully written thriller with believable characters.

Incarnate: The Third Entity by Russell Marcum Jr. examines deep moral quandaries, the consequences of personal actions, and the search for truth and redemption. The story revolves around Jake McCallum, a former deputy sheriff in West Virginia who is betrayed, abandoned by friends, and sentenced to a federal prison camp. Hope seems lost—until an unlikely ally, a former Circuit Judge, helps him secure a life-changing appeal. Upon his release, a mysterious preacher sets Jake on a dangerous mission: to find a young boy believed to be the incarnation of the Holy Ghost. But this quest is fraught with danger. As Jake races against time, he must confront ruthless drug dealers, corrupt law enforcement officers, and the demons of his past. With the lives of an innocent girl and the boy's mother hanging in the balance, Jake is forced to face not only the dark forces that threaten them but also the haunting truths within himself.

Incarnate: The Third Entity has an intricately developed plot that brilliantly shows Jake's struggles against corruption within the legal system and his battles with despair. The author crafts a tense atmosphere in which Jake faces past regrets and current injustices. From his wrongful conviction to the impending threat from criminal elements, especially Stanley Gunther, the narrative escalates into a thriller that compels the reader to question the nature of justice. While Jake is intelligently portrayed as a victim of circumstances, he is nonetheless deeply flawed and lovable. I particularly enjoyed how his relationship with Sarah developed, and the author infuses the writing with sensual imagery and realism. His relationships with other characters, such as his supportive brother Nick and the preacher Eli Cavenaugh, highlight his internal struggles and the contrasting perspectives on faith and redemption. The setting oscillates between the harsh realities of prison life and the idyllic yet deceptive tranquility of West Virginia—enhancing the themes of betrayal, longing, and the pursuit of truth. Incarnate is a winner for fans of thrillers with strong religious underpinnings.
