Incident at Lahore Basin is riveting—one of those page-turning books. My curiosity was piqued: how will this dangerous plot end? Clive Radford’s writing in this book created a sense of impatience that made it impossible to stop reading. The narrative focuses on Dale, a successful and intelligent salesman/businessman who travels to Pakistan to negotiate the sale of military equipment. He finds himself on a roller coaster, dealing with “preferred vendor arrangements,” an aviation accident, corruption, escapism, kidnapping, tunnel-vision police, and Muslim extremists always at the forefront. Dale is a target, and despite the protection and support of the British High Commission in Pakistan, there remains a risk of intelligence exposure if Dale is taken into custody by the Pakistan police. Dale is exposed to high risks in addition to the possibility of political and economic fallout if he gets captured.
Clive Radford demonstrates his comprehensive groundwork in Incident at Lahore Basin, with detailed information shared on military and sensor technology, Pakistan, and Muslim fundamentalists. In addition, the main character’s dossier demonstrates his diligence and preparation in building this story. I found the subtle allusions to the resentment of Muslim radicals toward the West and Western ethics quite resonant on a cultural level. This novel encompassed all the elements I love in reading thrillers: upbeat action and ample drama. If you are sensitive to the treatment and subservience of women in diverse cultures, you may find this novel upsetting, but the offset is a well-written, professionally written, extensively researched novel with nonstop action.
