It Gets Easier! And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers by Claudine Wolk is a self-help guide for mothers on what to expect during labor and how to deal with motherhood's daily duties and challenges. Wolk provides a detailed step-by-step guide for mothers and advice on what to prepare. While many pregnancy books only touch on overarching pregnancy issues, Wolk focuses on giving mothers the rules they need to follow, empowering them with detailed knowledge to calm their nerves during this significant life-changing experience. Wolk covers the subjects to broach with your husband before the baby's arrival, breastfeeding, key points to take note of from nurses, essential questions to ask, how to care for yourself once you return home, what to expect from your baby those first few days, and a mother's priorities including setting a schedule for feeding and following the commandment of sleeping.
It Gets Easier! And Other Lies We Tell New Mothers is an absorbing, contemporary, and resourceful guide to childbirth and motherhood. This audiobook is a must-have guide for new mothers; it's the first of its kind that I've heard that includes the pertinent details mothers want to know, especially mothers who may not have the helpful guidance of an extended family on this journey. Wolk decided to include the most pertinent issues on the minds of new mothers, especially what to expect and request during labor and how to care for your baby once you get home. Wolk is realistic about how a mother's life will change after childbirth and paints a clear and accurate picture of both the ups and downs, which gives all mothers, especially new ones, the opportunity to prepare.
Author Claudine Wolk also narrates the book and did a superb job of bringing the content to life in a relatable manner, sounding like a close friend giving you advice and supporting you through a scary journey. Her relaxed, friendly, and witty nature comes across strongly in how she delivers the information, making you want to open the next chapter and hear what else she will share. The tone came across as very conversational, and the way Wolk delivered the information was expressive and refreshing, as it is rare to hear such candidness in both content and delivery. The sound quality of the audiobook is exceptional, making it a pleasure to listen to, and it left me feeling informed throughout and looking forward to what's to come.
