D.C. Blackbird is an American poet, songwriter, and author, along with being a world-renowned adventurer and traveler to places that stamp passports with bark and tree sap. In case you never heard, D.C. is one of the world's greatest feather & leaf jugglers and has performed this great skill before Royal Courts throughout Europe as well as in diners throughout New Jersey between snacking on corn muffins.
You probably know that D.C. is the best-selling author of titles that include: Jekyll Says … (Good Deeds Cats Do, That You Should, To!), Jekyll Says More! (Lessons & Trends For Felines & Friends), and Dreaming of Kittyland, but there is more to this remarkable human being, so please don’t just judge D.C. by the pretty words.
Blackbird is one of “those vegans” you have probably heard about and maybe you have even seen hanging out at health stores ordering wheat grass juice. But don’t worry! D.C. does not glow in the dark (except after drinking grape juice), but veganism IS contagious. You have been warned.

I love cats. I have had several cats over the years and I just adore them. That was why I picked up this book - to enjoy learning about a cat that was loved by other cats and their owners. Jekyll was a real cat that was abandoned and then rescued by a loving family. My sympathies go out to the entire Jekyll family of humans and pets as he unfortunately passed away in 2011 and this book was written to honor his memory.
The contents highlight especially good “life lessons” for children that include such things as brushing your teeth, bathing, working hard, learning how to have fun, eating healthy foods, and staying positive. Certainly parents can’t stress these things enough to their little ones. The book is written in rhyming poetry-style verse. The illustrations are absolutely adorable and would make any child or adult smile. Jekyll presents his “lessons” throughout the book without sounding preachy or bossy and suggests to kids not to be a couch potato, to dress nicely, to make others smile, and to learn new things. In the afterword, the author endorses rescuing homeless pets from shelters and adopting a vegetarian diet.
Kids will enjoy the rhyming scheme and silly words and parents will enjoy teaching Jekyll's lessons to their children. The book serves as a good conversation-starter between parents and toddlers about creating good habits and being nice to others.
