Jesus, Coffee, and Prayer by Minister Nakita Davis is a Christian guide book to help readers move past a dissatisfied perspective and to find gratitude in all God has gifted us with in our lives. Spread out over the course of fourteen days, each day focuses on a passage of scripture, a personal story or empowering message from the author, a prayer, and two parts for the reader to journal their own takeaway: jotting down three specific statements of gratitude and three calls to action. While each message is broad and layered, the exercise is quick enough to empower you while you drink your morning cup of coffee.

Jesus, Coffee, and Prayer by Minister Nakita Davis is a devotional that will resonate with a great many Christian readers. I love the concept of a bite-sized study to start the day off right and, with a dose of caffeine, help energize the faithful as they face the day. The underlying theme of gratitude is certainly one that is important and often overlooked. It's wonderful to have a book that allows it to be a focal point, particularly with the interactive elements. I think the parts that were especially uplifting for me were Davis' poems, which are sprinkled like sweet sugar at the start of each chapter. "Show your heart, show your intent, show your character," she says before the start of day eleven. "More than nice, more than kind, more than a gesture. Gratitude." I would recommend this gem to anyone who is searching for a soft side to go along with a strong cup of coffee...and that's pretty much all of us.
