Kiki the Kitty by Maria Rusu is the story of Merlot and Kiki and how, although they both have different personalities, they end up being friends. Merlot is grumpy and sad and he does not play like he used to. He only eats and sleeps all the time and his owner is worried about his behavior. They take him to a vet and the vet says he needs more exercise and less lasagna. The little girl in the house feels he needs friends so that he will not be lonely and sad. Her parents bring home Kiki, a kitten, as a birthday present for Merlot. What will happen when the two cats meet? Will Kiki make a difference in Merlot’s life?

For all those who love cats and animals, this story is a must-read as they will love both Merlot and Kiki and their different personalities. The illustrations are wonderful as they breathe life into the characters and make the scenes come alive for readers. It is a story of friendship and readers get to see how two cats who behave like sworn enemies become friends. It is a good bedtime storybook, especially for all cat lovers and families that have cats as pets. The story highlights the friendship between two cats with different personalities, their initial dislike of each other, and how they end up being friends. Both Merlot and Kiki are adorable cats and children will love them both.
