Killing London by Jimmy Ray Conner is a brilliant action thriller that transports us to Britain of the early 1990s. London’s nomination as the host city of the 1992 Olympics and the confidence in the government of Margaret Thatcher suddenly came under threat when gruesome murders started to happen in London. A jogger in Hyde Park and a female pedestrian on the Chelsea Embankment were brutally assassinated by ancient, extremely lethal weapons from thousands of years ago. Then Scotland Yard received a telephone message claiming to be from the serial killer, demanding an immediate payment to stop the murders. Scotland Yard invited Duncan Kincaid, a world-renowned professor of ancient weaponry at Harvard, to assist with the investigation. But will they solve the mystery of who is killing people with such ancient weapons and why?

Killing London has so much to praise! It had everything I like in action thrillers - the immersive, fast-moving storytelling, the realistic and memorable characters, and twisty intrigue. And it had much more that made it a hugely satisfying read; the story lived and breathed London and its historic places, taking me down memory lane in Margaret Thatcher’s Britain. Excursions to Spain and Greece were informative, and I appreciated the thorough research of ancient weaponry that Jimmy Ray Conner put into this novel. In addition, the story commendably touched upon the theme of patriotism and the role of Alcoholics Anonymous in helping people to overcome alcohol addiction. And the novel would not be the same without German Shepherd Fritz! All in all, if you enjoy action thrillers with nail-biting suspense, you will love this enthralling story.
