Lavender Flynn’s unusual purple eyes have always garnered unwanted attention, with strangers asking intrusive questions and school bullies dubbing her a witch. Yet, neither insults nor a bruised heart can dampen her passion for music, especially when an eerily beautiful melody reaches her, one that only she can hear. Following the tune lands her in the company of an enigmatic musician trio running an unnamed band. While they claim Lavender to be their fated fourth member, she doesn’t pay much heed. Yet, she cannot deny the strange connection between them. When tragedy strikes Lavender’s life, will she find the courage to go on and assume the part everyone expects from her? Find out in Lavender, the first book of The Midnight Peace Runners Saga by Christina King.
Lavender was full of positivity, featuring moments of joy despite the hurdles. Christina King marvelously described Lavender’s support system, including loving parents, protective brothers, and an amazing best friend. Her insecurities and dilemmas were so palpable that I could not help rooting for her. The raw emotions were heartrending, whereas the slowly blossoming romance acted almost like a salve. King’s vibrant descriptions of an otherworldly, ethereal beauty mesmerized me. She demonstrated a unique ability to convey profound, thought-provoking subjects in a lighthearted narrative. The spiritual aspects created a soothing, refreshing vibe, the story revolving around the transformative power of music. The novel highlighted the importance of keeping an open mind, tuning in to the cryptic messages of the universe, and embracing our destined paths without qualms or doubt. I recommend Lavender to anyone who likes a wholesome, feel-good read.
