Let Me Go by Tricia T. LaRochelle is a mesmerizing second-chance romance that follows Jacob “JC” Sullivan, a prosperous city trader who inherits his beloved grandfather’s remote Vermont cabin and a one-month stay. After a one-month stay, he can decide whether to keep the property or not. JC reluctantly journeys to the countryside to honor his grandfather’s wishes, seeking a break from his hectic life. There, he encounters Iris, a reclusive woman with a painful past, struggling to protect her dogs from local troublemakers. As JC becomes embroiled in her world, he finds himself drawn to her strength and beauty, despite her guarded nature and the dangerous circumstances surrounding her. Over time, their relationship deepens while her life is threatened; she faces scars from her past, and the rugged Vermont landscape, forcing JC to confront his emotional barriers and consider the possibility of a second chance at love.

I enjoyed Tricia T. LaRochelle’s skillful plotting and deft characterization. The setting is detailed in the vivid imagery of rural Vermont’s serene environment—lush forests, mountain ranges, and the quiet isolation of Iris’s home. JC’s urban sophistication is well drawn. JC is a pragmatic and somewhat emotionally distant man, and Iris is a vulnerable yet fiercely protective woman. I loved how the author explores her trauma. Her connection with her dogs is beautifully written. Let Me Go delivers a lovely romance evolving in a close-knit community. The characters are believable and deeply flawed, from JC and Iris to the supporting cast like the protective Callum and the dogs. You’ll love the gorgeous prose, the skillful exploration of the emotional turmoil in the characters, and the psychological underpinnings of this gripping romance.
