Letters to Heaven by Kaitlyn Macek shares the experience of losing a loved one with warmth and compassion. Two young sisters lose their beloved father and are understandably heartbroken. The girls learn to process their grief after discovering a positive way to express their emotions and concerns, while also maintaining a connection to their father. Beautiful, detailed, and peaceful illustrations by April Hartmann capture the complex range of feelings often experienced while grieving a loss. The sisters find solace and comfort in a simple activity that also provides a powerful reminder, that although we may no longer be able to see loved ones who have passed away, we can always remember and maintain a special bond with them.

Letters to Heaven by Kaitlyn Macek offers a valuable resource for helping children to learn about and cope with grief. Parents and caregivers will appreciate the sensitive way in which grief is addressed in this meaningful story. Young readers will be encouraged to discuss their own sadness, fears, and worries after losing a loved one. The sisters' creative way of coping with their loss is uplifting and highlights an activity that will resonate with many grieving families. My favorite part of this heartfelt story was how the father was portrayed as a caring angel constantly watching over his daughters. This loving image will help to bring healing and comfort to readers of all ages. Letters to Heaven conveys the importance of helping children to feel supported during a time of loss and grief.
